Our Sensor Lines

Linear Sensors

Linear sensors come in all different shapes and sizes and at Everight we are here to help navigate through the seemingly overwhelming number of options. Whether you are measuring fractions of an inch or hundreds of feet, Everight offers a unique variety of LVIT’s, potentiometers, draw wires and contact measuring wheels.

Rotary Sensors

In its simplest form a rotary encoder provides information on the position or motion of a shaft. Multi Turn encoders can also provide information on the number of turns. While traditional contact based potentiometers are still appropriate for some basic applications, most modern control systems rely on optical, magnetic, capacitive or inductive technology for robust, reliable and high resolution sensing.

Tilt Sensors

Inclinometers, also called tilt sensors, are designed to measure the angle of an object with respect to the force of gravity. These tilt or level meters determine pitch and/or roll angle and output these values via the appropriate electrical interface. Inclinometers are easy to integrate into an application because there is no need for mechanical linkages other than just the installation itself – a real advantage for design engineers.

Liquid Level Sensors

Gill is a world leader in capacitive, solid-state liquid level sensing technology. With no moving parts to break or wear out, Gill liquid level sensors offer unmatched long term reliability in a variety of harsh environments.

Oil Debris Sensors

The Gill WearDetect Oil Debris Sensor is proven in use by some of the world’s leading manufacturers, to provide the earliest warning of the initial stages of machine failure.

Sensors for Hazardous Environments

While finding the right sensor solution for ‘Hazardous Environments’ may be more complicated, it doesn’t mean that it can’t be done. Everight can’t replace a Safety Engineer, but Everight can help navigate linear, rotary sensor and inclinometer sensors that have been formally rated for use in hazardous environments to ATEX, IECEx and CSA requirements.

The P101 is a durable, affordable, high accuracy stand alone linear inductive position sensor designed for use in scientific and industrial applications.

Like all Positek sensors the P101 provides a linear output that is proportional to the displacement. The P101 is very compact and offers an excellent stroke to overall length ratio. Each unit is supplied calibrated to the exact travel required by the customer, for example, if your application requires 10″” (254 mm) measurement then Positek will manufacture the sensor specifically for this length. The mechanical length and calibration will be set up for 254 mm.the P101 is available with any travel from 0-5mm to 0-800mm.

The overall performance, repeat-ability and stability are outstanding over a wide temperature range. The sensor is very robust, manufactured from stainless steel the P101 has a long service life and strong environmental resistance and is particularly suitable for applications that require good sensor performance in harsh environments such as industrial machinery where cost is important.

The P101 is easy to install with either M5 rod eye or body clamps. The push rod can be supplied captive or free with either M5 thread, M5 rod eye or ball end. The rod can be spring loaded if required in either direction on sensors with a stroke length of up to 300mm. The P101 is available with a wide range of electrical inputs/outputs, sealing up to IP65/IP67 dependent on connector/cable options and fully integrated EMC protection.

The intrinsically safe X132 is ATEX and IECEx approved for use in potentially explosive gas/vapour atmospheres. It is designed for gauge head positioning in industrial and scientific applications and is ideal for OEMs seeking good sensor performance for arduous applications in hazardous areas. The X132, like all Positek sensors, provides a linear output proportional to displacement. Each sensor is supplied with the output calibrated to the travel required by the customer, from 0-5mm to 0-50mm and with full EMC protection built in.

Overall performance, repeatability and stability are outstanding over a wide temperature range. The sensor is very robust, the body and plunger being made of stainless steel for long service life and environmental resistance.

The plunger is spring loaded with a domed end. The X112 is easy to install with a long ½ inch UNF mounting thread and is supplied with two lock nuts for positioning. Environmental sealing is to IP67.

Positek intrinsically safe sensors are designed to be used with a galvanically isolated amplifier . Approved galvanic isolation amplifiers (X005) are available from Positek; there is a choice of 0.5-9.5V or 4-20mA transmission outputs.

The sensor can be installed with a cable length up to 1km between the sensor and the amplifier.

Like all Positek sensors the P112 provides a linear output that is proportional to the displacement. Each unit is supplied calibrated to the exact travel required by the customer, the P112 is available with any travel from 0-5mm to 0-50mm. For example, if your application requires 3/4″””” (19 mm) measurement then Positek will manufacture the sensor specifically for this length. The calibration will be set up for 19 mm. The overall performance, repeatability and stability are outstanding over a wide temperature range. The sensor is very robust, manufactured from stainless steel the P112 has a long service life and strong environmental resistance and is particularly suitable for applications that require good sensor performance in harsh environments such as industrial machinery where cost is important.

The P112 has a spring loaded plunger with a dome end and the body has a long 1/2″””” UNF mounting thread and is supplied with two lock nuts for positioning. Sealing is IP67 and the P112 has fully integrated EMC protection.

The VLP-35 is designed to meet the needs of the servo motor and other industries. Designed to be modified in order to provide a best-fit solution to the needs of different customers, it is ideal for motion control in drives, robotics and automation, industrial and automotive applications.

Netzer recognizes the importance of cooperation with servo motor manufacturers, which have their own design philosophy and production methods, and as a result, the VLH-35 can be modified in order to provide a best-fit solution to the needs of different customers.

I thought rotary encoders used optical discs, but now I’m finding other options such as magnetic, capacitive and inductive. How do I determine which is right for my application?
Each sensor technology has its own strengths and weaknesses and within each technology there is a broad range of options. For example, some optical encoders cost $20 and others cost $10,000. The chart below is a very generalized overview of how the different technologies stack against one another and it should be noted that exceptions do exist.

Incremental Encoders
Incremental devices provide position change information only, so the actual position (0-360°) is unknown at startup. A once-per-rev index/marker signal defines the zero position or null of the device. It can be detected during a homing routine if needed.

Incremental sensors are typically small, accurate and cost-effective. They provide essentially instantaneous position information with minimal latency.

Absolute Encoders
Absolute devices provide the actual physical position within one revolution. Homing elimination is a major advantage as this process takes time and isn’t always possible depending on the physical limits of the application.

Absolute sensors are usually bigger and more expensive than incremental devices. Data processing of multiple tracks and serial transmission can increase the latency of position reading. Absolute sensors are available in a wide variety of interfaces including analog (voltage, current), SSI, BiSS, CANopen, J1939 and many Ethernet based protocols.

Absolute Multi-Turn
Rotary, multi-turn devices provide actual position over multiple revolutions. Homing can be eliminated. Multi-turn devices incorporate internal gearing, a battery backup or a self-generated pulse counter such as a Weigand Wire.

While Positek sensors are manufactured to never need to be calibrated, we do understand that sometimes it can be necessary to confirm the sensors functionality and linearity.

Note, you will need a sensor where the ‘trim pots’ are accessible to make this adjustment.

If it is a Gill liquid level sensor, yes you can. Some lower-end capacitive sensors rely on the tank housing to complete the circuit necessary to measure the liquid level, however Gill liquid level sensors are fully enclosed, and thus can be used in tanks made of any material. Gill sensors can even be mounted at an angle or upside down with no loss of performance.
