Introduction to Intrinsically Safe Sensors

What is an Intrinsically Safe Linear Sensor?

Intrinsically safe sensors and systems are used to provide a safe operating environment for personnel and equipment. They do this by restricting the electrical energy transmitted into a hazardous area.

Intrinsically Safe Sensors are different from explosion-proof sensors. Intrinsically safe sensors are unable to produce a spark strong enough to cause ignition, whereas an explosion-proof sensor would contain an explosion if it were to happen.

Positek offers linear sensors up to 1m in length and rotary sensors up to 360 degrees for use in hazardous environments.

Where are Intrinsically Safe Linear Sensors used?

Positek Intrinsically Safe Linear Sensors are suitable for different environments. We have Linear Sensors for Gas/ Vapour environments, areas containing dust, and sensors for mining environments. Intrinsically safe linear sensors are often used in application areas including;

  • Gas Utility Plants
  • Sewage Treatment Plants
  • Oil Rigs
  • Chemical and Pharmaceutical Applications
  • Large Scale Dry-Cleaning Applications

Intrinsically Safe Linear Sensors from Positek

Our intrinsically safe linear sensors, like all of Positek sensors, use our very own sensor technology. This technology is similar to that of an LVDT, but with an improved stroke to length ratio and with an internal signal conditioner.

Positek sensors are designed for demanding hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder position feedback applications.

Some of the benefits of Positek sensors are;

  • Long service life
  • Environmental resistance
  • Good value for money
  • High performance
  • Able to withstand wide temperature range

Overall, Positek sensors are also very compact making them suitable for applications where space is restricted. They are also very rugged and able to withstand harsh environmental conditions.
