Expanded VLP Encoder Series Offers Control Engineers New Sensing Options

Four additional sizes plus improvements in accuracy and operating temperature make the VLP a versatile option.

Everight Position is pleased to announce the addition of four new sizes of Netzer’s two-plate VLP rotary encoder amongst other improvements. Based on the success of the VLP-60 and VLP-100, the new options include the VLP-80, VLP-140, VLP-170 and VLP-247.

While unique inner and outer diameters differentiate the VLP line, all VLP sensors are based on capacitive technology which have been developed and improved for over 20 years by Netzer. The VLP encoders are characterized by the following features that sets them apart from other similar encoders:

  • Low profile (<8 mm)s
  • Hollow shaft (Stator / Rotor)
  • No bearings or other contact elements
  • High resolution and excellent accuracy
  • Immunity to magnetic fields
  • High tolerance to temperature extremes, shock, moisture, EMI, RFI
  • Very low weight

With the additional sizes come two important changes to all VLP series encoders. First, the ‘Extended Accuracy’ option is now standard on all VLP encoders. This feature not only improves the accuracy of the encoder, but also reduces noise which is critical in applications where encoder position is used to calculate the velocity. Second, the operating temperature range has been increased to -40° to +105°C.

Jarrod Orszulak, an Applications Specialist at Everight Position reflects “Whether for use in a camera gimbal that requires low latency or a low profile installation in close proximity of a drive, the VLP has a lot offer. The VLPs bring a unique blend of accuracy, compact size and affordability that is unrivaled in the industry. These additional sizes will make it easier for control engineers to reap the benefits of a capacitive encoder without making design concessions.”

Deliveries of the new VLP sizes will begin in Q2 2023, with the VLP-60 and VLP-100 available for immediate delivery.
