Positek M500

Part no.: Positek M500

Key Features

• ATEX approved for mining

• 0.5-9.5V or 4-20mA outputs

• ATEX variants of P502 & P505 available

• Up to 160 deg range

The intrinsically safe M500 is ATEX and IECEx approved for use in potentially explosive gas/vapour, dust atmospheres and mining environments.

It is designed for industrial and scientific feedback applications and is ideal for OEMs seeking good sensor performance for arduous applications in hazardous areas.

The M500, like all Positek sensors, is supplied with the output calibrated to the angle required by the customer, between 16 and 160 degrees and with full EMC protection built in. The sensor provides a linear output proportional with angle of rotation. There is a machined registration mark to identify the calibrated mid point.

Overall performance, repeatability and stability are outstanding over a wide temperature range. The M500 has long service life and environmental resistance with a rugged stainless steel body, shaft, flange or servo mount. The flange or servo mounting options make the sensor easy to install, it also offers a range of mechanical options. Environmental sealing is to IP67 .

Positek intrinsically safe sensors are designed to be used with a galvanically isolated amplifier . Approved galvanic isolation amplifiers (X005) are available from Positek; there is a choice of 0.5-9.5V or 4-20mA transmission outputs.

The sensor can be installed with a cable length up to 1km between the sensor and the amplifier.

A Comparison of LVIT & LVDT- Which Linear Sensor is Best?

With the increasing sophistication of electronic controls for mechanical systems, there is more demand for durable, accurate and easy to use displacement sensors. As automation becomes more common there is also an increasing sensitivity to price. Customers also want sensors that can be easily connected and mechanically integrated.

Understanding Capacitive Rotary Encoders: Benefits and Comparisons

While they may be small, the role of rotary encoders in spacecraft is vital, demanding a balance between performance, reliability, and the unforgiving environment of space. From NASA’s Robonaut II to automated material handling systems on the International Space Station, Everight has worked with engineers to put rotary encoders into ‘the final frontier.’

Intrinsically Safe Absolute Rotary Encoders

In the most hazardous environments, where an explosive atmosphere consisting of flammable gas or vapor is regularly present and a sensor fault cannot be risked, Intrinsically Safe (IS) sensors may be the best sensing option. Generally, these sensors are paired with a barrier which limits the amount of electrical and thermal energy that can enter the Hazardous Area to an amount that is so small that even in the situation of a sensor fault, there is not enough energy to cause an ignition.

Dynamic Inclinometers

For applications where sudden movements, shocks, and vibrations are likely to be encountered, it is important to have sensors with fast response and a clean signal output. POSITAL’s dynamic inclinometers combine two measurement principles using two different MEMS sensors: a 3D acceleration sensor and a 3D gyroscope.
