Collaboration for Advanced Gas Valve Sensors

Positek’s G103 is CSA certified and intrinsically safe for hazardous environments such as gas and vapor. Built upon Positek’s patented LIPS technology, it features a non-contact inductive based sensing technology for years of reliable use.

When a worldwide leader in gas valves needed a partner to develop a new linear sensor for an upcoming product rollout, they turned to Everight Position and Positek. This collaboration was aimed at creating a sensor that not only met stringent regulatory requirements for hazardous locations but also offered versatility in terms of stroke lengths, catering to the broad product lineup.

Initially LVDT’s had been considered by the customer but given their low stroke-to-length ratio, a more compact technology was necessary and so the customer looked to Everight. Leveraging the foundation laid by Positek’s G103 short-stroke linear sensor, Everight worked closely with the client’s team to define the specific requirements of the new sensor. The G103 sensor’s proven reliability and performance provided a solid starting point, allowing the team to build an advanced solution that would meet the unique needs of the gas valve industry.

One of the critical aspects of the project was ensuring that the new sensor could be manufactured in a variety of stroke lengths. This flexibility was essential to cover the full range of the client’s valve products, ensuring compatibility and performance across their entire portfolio.

In addition to technical requirements, the collaboration focused on meeting the customer’s sales goals. This meant that short lead times and cost-effectiveness were paramount, both for initial samples as well as OEM volumes. Everight and Positek worked diligently to streamline production processes, reduce costs, and ensure quick delivery times, thereby supporting the client’s market strategy and competitive edge. Initial prototypes were sketched within days and produced in less than a week.

The result of this partnership was a state-of-the-art linear sensor that fulfilled regulatory standards for hazardous environments, provided the necessary flexibility in stroke lengths, and adhered to the cost and time constraints demanded by the customer. This successful collaboration underscored the strengths of Everight and Positek in delivering customized, high-performance solutions tailored to industry-specific challenges.
