Part no.: M100
• ATEX/IECEx approved for mining
• Sensor Mounting: In-Cylinder Mounting
• Any stroke from 0-5mm to 0-800mm (e.g. 305mm)
• IP65 (connector) / IP67 (cable)
The intrinsically safe M100 is ATEX and IECEx approved for use in potentially explosive gas/vapour, dust atmospheres and mining environments. It is designed for demanding hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder position feedback applications where service life, environmental resistance and cost are important and is ideal for OEMs seeking good sensor performance for arduous applications in hazardous areas.
Overall performance, repeat-ability and stability are outstanding over a wide temperature range. The unit is highly compact and space-efficient, being responsive along almost its entire length. Like all Positek sensors, the M100 provides a linear output proportional to displacement. Each unit is supplied with the output calibrated to the travel required by the customer, from 0-5mm to 0-800mm and with full EMC protection built in.
The sensor is very rugged, being made of stainless steel with an inert fluoropolymer-sheathed probe and stainless steel target tube. The sensor is easy to install in cylinders and has a wide range of mechanical options. Environmental sealing is to IP65 or IP67 depending on selected cable or connector options.
Positek intrinsically safe sensors are designed to be used with a galvanically isolated amplifier . Approved galvanic isolation amplifiers (X005) are available from Positek; there is a choice of 0.5-9.5V or 4-20mA transmission outputs.
The sensor can be installed with a cable length up to 1km between the sensor and the amplifier.

Accuracy, Resolution and Repeatability
There are several key terms that are critical to specifying the optimal position sensor for a given application. This application note defines these key terms and how they relate to the sensor’s role in the overall system performance. It is important to consider that precision is very much a system issue and can be dominated by mechanical errors such as eccentricity. This paper discusses the most significant mechanical error for rotary applications (eccentricity) and presents eccentricity tolerant position sensor solutions.
Understanding Hazardous Environments and Their Risks
Hazardous environments are prevalent across various industries, presenting significant risks due to the presence of explosive materials, dangerous gasses, or other hazardous conditions.
LVR, a Temperature Independent Alternative to LVDT’s in Harsh Environments
The LVR sensor (Linear Variable Resonance), is a new patented non-contact linear position sensor that is a potential replacement for the LVDT sensors in harsh environments.
Introduction to Intrinsically Safe Sensors
Intrinsically safe (IS) sensors are unable to produce a spark strong enough to cause ignition. Learn how this is accomplished and design considerations when using IS sensors.
